Watching Olympics gives me constant goose bumps. Those athletes are purely amazing to me. I can only imagine how good it feels to be there competing. Regardless, the broadcast people are brutal criticizing the tiniest mistakes they make. "That was disastorous!!" is what they say ... and I wonder, do they know what disastor really is? Hey, those mistakes are not disastors. They are just small flaws. They are still amazing.

Dr. Randy Pausch of Carnegie Mellon University, who became very popular with his "Last Lecture", passed away on July 25th. A very sad news, but his spirit will live within millions of people, including myself. What a brave man he was!
Some people want to live but have to go. Some other people take their lives for granted and throw them away. It is ironic and unfair.
Many people like Amy Winehouse, and many others don't. I think she is very talented and do like some of her songs, but have to agree that it is painful to watch her abuse herself. We all have only one body and one life, you know?

Saw a girl walking ... tall, tan, young, lovely ... just like the "Girl from Ipanema" by Antonio Carlos Jobim. Youth, which she probably is unaware yet, is so precious because it is short lived. Jobim himself was a very handsome man when he was young. If a girl from Ipanema ignores young Jobim, Ipanema must be an amazing place full of good looking men.

Attended a meeting at Oahu Country Club. Golf never interested me much but club houses tend to have good food, and that aspect of it is very attractive ....

Last weekend was a long weekend - 3 days off with Memorial Day on Monday. But it sounds funny because there seems to be no such thing as "long weekend". It's never long enough.

Every few weeks Tori-san goes through "molting" stage, when he's really itcy all over, and loses a lot of feather. He scratches himself against things, and he makes that expression, "aaah, it feels goooood...".
There's a white gekko living in our back lanai. He hides in a orchid pot during the day. I've always liked gekko. They are such humble beings. The other day, we saw him hunting on the screen door. What a smart guy. He knows we like him, too.

Our pretty parakeet Tori-san plays, eats, and sleeps a lot. He takes a 10 minutes power nap, and like the energizer bunny, there he goes, back to playing!

Cut flowers don't last too long here. It's just too hot. Scott and Tori-san gave me a nice long stemmed rose for Mother's Day. For 4 days it was truly beautiful.

It's been many years since my father passd, but I still miss him dearly. Everytime I pick up my guitar, I imagine he is jamming with me.

This morning, I sat down at my desk with a cup of coffee, and of course, Tori-san wanted to come out of his cazy. He played on the desk chasing my pen for a while, then jumped on my arm and went right to a deep sleep with his head in his back. A life as a bird doesn't sound too bad.

Our orchids bloomed beautifully again this spring. Catleas are in full bloom now.
